Manage your subscription

Compare Free and Premium, upgrade, downgrade, and update your payment method.

Quick answer

Settings → Billing → Subscription. Premium unlocks unlimited Dawn messages, advanced analytics, and priority support. Upgrades take effect immediately; downgrades take effect at the end of the current billing period.

Subscription management lives in one place: Settings → Billing → Subscription. You can change plans, update your card, or pause — everything below explains what each option does.

The free tier is a real product, not a demo. Most people can do the work on free for as long as they need.

Upgrade to Premium

Open Settings → Billing → Subscription

From the dashboard, click your avatar → Settings, then Billing → Subscription in the sidebar.

Click Upgrade to Premium

Pick monthly or annual. Annual is cheaper per month — see the page for current rates.

Enter payment details

Card processing is by Stripe. We accept Visa, Mastercard, Amex, and Discover. Apple Pay and Google Pay work where your browser supports them.

Confirm

Premium features unlock immediately. You'll get a receipt by email.

Downgrade to Free

Settings → Billing → Subscription

Same place as upgrading.

Click Downgrade to Free

Premium features stay active until the end of your current billing period. After that, you're on the free tier.

Your data isn't deleted. Check-ins, journal entries, and Dawn history all persist. If you re-upgrade later, full history becomes accessible again.

Update your payment method

Settings → Billing → Payment methodsEdit. Stripe handles the card form; we never see your full card number.

If a renewal fails, we retry over 3 days then email you. After that, the subscription pauses and you drop to the free tier until you fix the card.

Pause your subscription

There isn't a built-in pause button, but the equivalent is:

  1. Downgrade to Free at the end of the current period.
  2. Upgrade again whenever you're ready.

You won't be billed during the gap, and your data persists. If you want a real pause for medical or financial reasons, email [email protected] — we can hold the account in a paused state without rebilling.

Common pitfalls

Card declined on renewal

Stripe retries 3 times across 3 days before pausing the subscription. Check that your card hasn't expired and that your bank isn't flagging the recurring charge. Update the card from Settings → Billing → Payment methods.

Charged twice in one month

Almost always a proration after upgrade or plan change — the second charge is the prorated difference, not a duplicate. View Settings → Billing → Payment history to see what each charge was for. If something still looks wrong, email [email protected].
