Account
Delete your account
Permanently remove your account and all associated data. 30-day grace period; after that the deletion is irreversible.
Quick answer
Deletion removes everything we have about you. It's irreversible after the 30-day grace period.
Before you delete
Three alternatives that might be what you actually want:
- Cancel subscription — stop paying, keep your account and data on the free tier.
- Export your data first — once deletion completes, the export option is gone too.
- Pause — email
[email protected]if you want a break without deleting.
If deletion is what you want, two options below.
Self-service deletion
Open Settings → Account → Delete account
The page lists exactly what will be deleted (also below).
Confirm with your password
Two confirmation steps — password, then a typed acknowledgement that you understand it's irreversible.
Account is deactivated immediately
You can't sign in starting now. Your data enters a 30-day grace period.
Permanent deletion at day 30
All data — including backups — is purged. We send a confirmation email when the purge completes.
Email request (alternative)
If you can't sign in or prefer email:
Send a message to [email protected]:
- Subject: Account deletion request
- Body: Your account email, plus one verifying detail (rough signup date, payment method last 4, etc.) so we can confirm it's you.
We initiate deletion within 30 days of the request, per GDPR.
What gets deleted
- User profile (name, email, password hash, settings)
- All Dawn AI conversations and companion memories
- All daily check-ins and mood data
- All journal entries
- All Time Vault configurations
- Recovery plans and goals
- Email/notification preferences
- Analytics events tied to your account
- Support tickets
What we keep, with reason:
- Stripe billing records — Stripe is the payment processor and is legally required to retain payment records for tax and fraud purposes. We don't have a way to override this.
- Anonymous aggregate analytics — non-identifiable counts (e.g. "X% of users completed onboarding") survive deletion since they can't be traced back to you.
The 30-day grace period
- Day 0: account deactivated. You can't sign in.
- Days 1–29: data still exists, encrypted and inaccessible. Email
[email protected]to cancel the deletion. - Day 30: irreversible purge. Data is removed from production systems and backups within the GDPR-mandated window.
Common pitfalls
Deleting without exporting first
Once deletion is initiated you can no longer export. If there's any chance you want a copy of your check-ins or journal, export first.
Expecting an immediate Stripe refund
Deletion stops future charges via account closure but does not trigger a refund. If you want money back, request the refund separately within the refund window.
Legal compliance
We comply with:
- GDPR (EU) — 30-day deletion timeline, right to erasure.
- CCPA (California) — 45-day deletion timeline, right to delete.
Both are honored by the same workflow above. If you're in another
jurisdiction with stronger requirements, email
[email protected] and we'll handle it.
